What are Dental Veneers?
A veneer is a tooth-colored, ultra-thin porcelain shell that's bonded to the front surface of an imperfect tooth. With results that are seamless and natural-looking, only you and your dentist will know you weren't born with naturally gorgeous teeth.
Flaws that may be concealed using porcelain veneers include:
- Severe discoloration and stains
- Uneven tooth spacing
- Over or undersized teeth
- Worn down or chipped teeth
- Teeth with abnormal shape
- Crowded teeth
The Process of Getting Veneers
Your veneers consultation will begin with a thorough assessment and an open discussion about your smile goals. Dr. Olberding's advanced training from the Dawson Academy has given him a deep understanding of the relationship between the teeth, joints, and muscles of the jaw. He focuses not only on providing aesthetic beauty, but his passion and experience in solving complex cases allows him to improve the entire function of your mouth. Many times, there are underlying issues to address beforehand. Upon examining your teeth, he will design a customized plan to capture the look you want for your smile. Precise measurements will be taken and impressions will be sent to our lab for fabrication.
Part of our tremendous success working with veneers is due to our excellent dental lab. Not every lab can make a veneer look like a natural tooth, but ours can. Dr. Olberding's ties to the Dawson Academy grant us access to some of the best labs in the country. Our exclusive, award-winning lab creates products of surpassing comfort and beauty while never overlooking strength, longevity, and function.
Once your veneers are ready for placing, Dr. Olberding will shape your teeth to ensure an excellent fit. After years of hiding behind a flawed smile, you'll finally be able to look in the mirror with confidence.
The Benefits of Veneers
Year after year, veneers are one of the most popular smile-enhancing treatments. Here are a few reasons why:
- The smile makeover process can usually be completed in three visits or less
- The materials used, like porcelain, are stain-resistant
- With proper care, the results can last for 10+ years
- They are easy to maintain
- No dietary restrictions
Understanding the Cost of Veneers
Although we wish we could, we can't provide you with an estimate of the cost here; it wouldn't be accurate! In order to determine the price of your smile makeover, we need to know more about your dental history, needs, and goals. That way, we can determine factors crucial to your treatment plan, including how many veneers are needed. If you want an estimate of the cost of veneers, the best thing to do is schedule a consultation.

Veneers FAQs
Are Veneers Permanent?
While durable and long-lasting, veneers aren’t technically permanent; they need periodic replacement. That said, the shells’ placement process is irreversible.
To place veneers, dentists must remove bits of enamel from your teeth. (Doing so makes room for the final shells.) Since the removed portions don’t grow back, each “prepped” tooth will need a restoration going forward. Lacking a crown or veneer will put them at greater risk of sensitivity.
All that said, you can say veneered teeth are “permanently” changed. Their alternations ensure they’ll require porcelain shells in the future.
How Many Veneers Will I Need?
How many veneers you need will depend on your situation. These shells are meant to make your visible teeth “match,” so the final number for you may be high or low.
Indeed, some patients require more veneers than others. One person may need as many as ten or twelve to make their smile beautiful and symmetrical. On the other hand, someone else might only get six or eight shells to achieve the same effect. Your own “veneer number” will be shaped by how many smile flaws must be concealed.
You should ultimately consult your dentist to see how many veneers you need. With their help, you can quickly grasp the amount.
Do Veneers Feel Like Real Teeth?
When properly placed, veneers feel like real teeth. Many patients don’t even notice the shells after a while, as the restorations have a very subtle presence.
Keep in mind that modern veneers are made of porcelain. This material is very smooth and slick, so it won’t irritate your mouth’s soft tissues. That means veneers won’t feel rough against your tongue; they’ll instead seem like normal enamel to you.
More crucially, dentists and dental labs tailor veneers to your smile. They take steps to ensure the shells fit over your teeth precisely and easily. As a result, you won’t sense veneers “jutting out” or protruding uncomfortably.
Do Veneers Change Your Face?
As a matter of fact, veneers do change your face. Rest assured, though, that this effect is good; it enhances your appearance.
Your mouth loses elasticity and muscle tone with age, causing your face to look saggy. However, the support from your veneers counteracts this effect. It’s such that the shells practically give you a facelift without any surgery! In other words, you could trust treatment to make you look younger and more vibrant.
Of course, the specifics of how veneers change your face can vary. You should consult your dentist (during a consultation) to confirm the exact impact.
