Well, guess what? So do the\nbacteria in your mouth. When they chow down on food particles left behind on\nyour teeth, they create acids that can cause cavities and gum disease. Gross,\nright? As it turns out, there are ways to prevent this from happening. Here are\nsix tips from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.olberdingdental.com\/preventive-dentistry.html\">a dentist<\/a>\nin Lincoln to keep your smile healthy during the holiday season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Eat Sweets WITH Your Meal <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s common to wait a while after your meal to enjoy your\ndessert, but this is actually worse for your teeth. Saliva production increases\nwhen you eat a meal, so go ahead and treat yourself. The excess saliva will\nhelp wash out the sugar so that it doesn\u2019t linger on your teeth and cause\ndamage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Drink Plenty of Water <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Water helps clean the mouth out, in addition to all its\nother health benefits. It helps produce saliva that strengthens your teeth, keeps\nthe gums hydrated, and washes food particles away from the teeth. Drinking\nwater will also help keep you full so you don\u2019t feel as tempted to binge on\nholiday sweet treats. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Get Enough Sleep <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the holiday season can be busy, try to aim for at\nleast 8 hours of sleep a night. Getting enough sleep will boost your immune\nsystem and allow you to fight off mouth infections like gum disease. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Lay Out Some Cheeses <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Cheese is naturally one of the best foods out there for your\npearly whites. It contains vitamins that make your tooth enamel stronger in the\nfight against decay. It also houses natural cavity-fighting agents that kill\noff excess bacteria on your teeth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Eat Your Fruits and Vegetables <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The skin of many fruits and vegetables naturally scrub your\nteeth clean when you eat them. When the natural fibers of the fruits and\nveggies combine with the saliva in your mouth, they help wash away bacteria\nthat cause tooth stains, gum disease, and cavities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Chew on Fresh Herbs <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Chewing on herbs like parsley, cilantro, and mint helps decrease\nodors caused by bacteria that result in bad breath. Add some to your salad and\nchew them after indulging in holiday treats. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you know how to enjoy treats without destroying your\nteeth this holiday season.
